you fix your credit by stopping using credit cards, pay your bills on time, and pay your credit card balances off – it doesn’t happen overnite

It takes time and patience Never be late with a payment. Your debt ratio can’t be too high. Your credit score will eventually go up if you pay your bills on time. It took some time to get a bad credit report, now it’s going to take a lot more time to get a good credit report.

Depending on what is wrong the best way to start fixing it is to pay every bill you have on time, even pay the full amount not just the monthly minimum payment each month.

Depending on why your previous creditors put bad marks on your credit, it may not help at all.

A debt councelor may be able to help, call a few and interview them, see if they can help you.

Order your credit report from all 3 major bureaus. Compare them for discrepancies.
File a dispute on any you don’t recognize. The creditor must then provide you and the bureau proof of the debt.
Write letters to all your bad debt creditors. Ask them for settlement arrangements. Some will take 50% or less just to get the debt off their books. Good luck!

Get your annual free copy of your report , and pay the bills , any large amounts the collections agency will work with you . If some of the charges are about to go positive say with in a year let it ride , after seven years it goes positive even if you do not pay it.

Without knowing your actual situation the simplest answer to this question is as follows:

    (1) Pay off your credit card balances and keep them under 50% of max balance ALWAYS.

    (2) Always have two (ideally three) credit cards (or lines of credit) available but DO NOT USE THEM, keep them with a zero balance… Credit has to do with available balance, so if you close all your cards that will actually hurt your credit in the short term. I know this sounds silly or stupid but this works VERY WELL in establishing great credit. Use cash for all your transactions.

    (3) if you have secured debt (mortgage) NEVER MAKE A LATE PAYMENT. I usually don’t like to use caps, but it is warranted. The late payment on your mortgage is very bad for your credit. I’ve worked in mortgages for 5 years and trust me on this.

    (4) Pay bills on time…

    (5) Budget for an affordable lifestyle so that all expenses are less than 75% of what your bring home pay is. The reason for such a high remainder is because things happen– Christmas, Birthdays, Other gifts, Hospital bills… and if you are diligent with saving 25% net salary you might avoid death pitfalls… Also, God forbid you might want to go on vacation or splurge on something every once and again… if you plan for these things you can enjoy the things you can actually enjoy and not feel like you are ‘missing out’ on the fun of life.

This website should have all of the form letters you should need to send to help improve your credit.

You should aim for a pay-for-deletion letter and get it in writing so that the trade line will be removed from the credit report.

Bad credit can make a mess of your quality of life. I am sure you are experiencing this. There is hope. Last year my credit was so bad I could only get a payday loan. I did a lot of research on credit repair because I heard there were a lot of scams out there. I found a lot of scams but I also found several solutions for credit repair that actually work. I was able to increase my credit score by 200 point in less than 90 days. I knew if I could do it others could too. I decided to create a website that lists the products I reviewed so others would know which products are not scams. You can visit it at

I hope you find your solution there. Good Luck!
